Current Implemented Sustainable Practices
Venue 114 continues to deliver on sustainability initiatives including:
ENERGY
Installation of building management system (BMS) - Scheduled control of HVAC to optimise individual energy use for each room to coincide when room is in use.
Manage lighting with timers or switch off completely when space is not being used
Installed 3kW solar panels
Timed security lights
Replaced house lights in main halls with LED
Changed carpark lighting to LED
WATER
Water coolers/water fountains available for visitors to re-fill water bottles, glasses and jugs
2 x 20 000L underground water tanks used on garden and toilets
WASTE
Pairing landfill and recycling bin stations in event areas and across the facility
Catering with filtered coffee and tea using reusable crockery and utensils
Hiring of reusable crockery, cutlery and utensils available to all events
Setting up tables with water jugs, glasses and mints (packaged in recyclable cardboard)
Minimising waste with the Zest coffee van by offering:
- A $0.50c discount on BYO cups
- Reusable cups through the Community Cup Bank and reusable packaging for storage of food
- Food scraps/coffee grinds composted at the Eastbank Community Garden
Using electronic forms e.g. induction form to cut down on paper
Online Ticketing programs and scanning from phones limiting need for printed tickets
Rechargeable batteries for all battery-operated audio, lighting and presentation equipment thus eliminating single use batteries going to landfill
TRANSPORT
Encouraging car-pooling for events on the website
CATERING
Internal catering services based on sustainable practices, where possible
Collection of compostable food scraps and taking to EastBank Community Garden
Large leftover catering given to charities when applicable e.g. OzHarvest
PROCUREMENT
Purchasing 100% recycled paper
Changing to compostable packaging
